RE: My little Doxie is very sick. Cause unknown.

Just read about Maggie. I am so sorry to hear about it. I'm glad you were with her. Please don't second guess yourself. It was simply her time to go. Take care.... Jana

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

You know how you were trying to come up with a name for Charlie like the FOOFs? Since you now have Peaches, I think you should adopt one more and call it Charlie's Angels!

RE: It still hurts a year later

It will be 4 years since we had to have Maddey put to sleep. I can still cry over her. Maicey died 3 years ago, but since she went on her own, the grief is different. We had time to adjust to her dying since she had cancer. Grief is an odd thing. Sometimes I will find myself really missing them for no particular reason or anniversary. A year really isn't long....

Great pictures! Now who says that dogs don't smile? That one of Charlie just shows how happy he is!

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Enjoy the beach....or if not the beach, then the vacation. I have learned in the field of education that I will end up dying an early death if I don't learn that there are perfectly good people out there just waiting to step up the the plate and fill in when necessary. Sometimes they have to be prodded, but they are there. Someone will take care of the situation for you. It may not be how you would have handled it, but it was the way that God intended..... Get some rest... jana

RE: Never Say Never..

This is a great story! Although dogs are my personal favorite, I love to hear about cats....especially when they have such happy endings!

RE: Poor Scout (sad)

Oh wow....we leave our back door open all the time. We just recently replaced the sliding screen door. It kept coming off the track, and if the "girls" were outside and wanted in, they had learned how to nose it so it would open. Therefore, the door would end up hanging open half the day. I never thought about other animals coming in! We live in the country and have numerous critters outside. Thanks for the warning....

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Tires worry me so much. On our trip to Mammoth Cave, we passed many TT along the way with blow outs. I always wondered how we would really know if we had one. That is why we replaced our new tires right after we got the Rockwood that we have now. I read too many posts about tires and it scared me! Like others said, campers can be fixed, but boy they are expensive. Glad that Grady made it home!! How is Charlie today?

RE: Didn't know where else to go...UPDATED

I hope the vet is able to diagnose quickly for you. I hate the high prices of vet care. My girls are worth it, but I always rack up bills quickly with them. Prayers for you both......

RE: Poor Scout (sad)

Before reading the story, I truly thought it must have been a dog left outside. How very scary to think that a mountain lion could have entered their house. RIP Scout.

RE: Dog throwing up (kind of a long one)

In addition to what Spike88 said, there were days that Maicey would seem "off" and didn't eat well, but was better the next day. All of us on here understand what you are going through, some because we have been in your shoes.....Just love her everyday. If they give you a "timeline", understand that it is just that...a timeline. I have said it before on this forum....when they gave Maicey 3 months to live, I lived like she was dying in 3 months. Cried all the time....etc. She lived for 16 months. I wish I would have spent more time celebrating her life. Thinking of you and Roxy.....

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good Morning.... Richard, I hope your travels go smoothly when you transport -Grady- was it? It is concerning about Charlie and his paw. Perhaps one of the bone splinters has worked its way loose? Hopefully the rest at the vets will help along with new x-rays. We had been gone at Mammoth Cave in Kentucky. Marvleous look at what hides under the surface of the earth! Dogs were fairly well behaved. Saw one that looked just like Old Fella...or at least what his pictures looked like. I am planning a combined bday party for my boys. In lieu of gifts we are asking for donations to our local Humane Society. Our guy in charge - I'm sure he has a title - recently was in an accident and the truck was a total loss. They are asking for donations toward this, and I think this might be a good thing for the boys to do. Besides, who needs more junk???? Safe travels for all.....

RE: Ever been "haunted" by a deceased pet?

I, too, am well educated, but just can't explain those unexplained things....3 days ago in our garage, I swear I saw Maicey walk around the side of the van. She has been gone 3 years almost to the day. I felt it enough that I actually walked around the van and called her name. Talk about feeling stupid.....The thing is, when I went out on errands shortly after that, I had 2 close calls driving -not of my fault. Made it an even weirder...like she had come to check on me or something. Ok, now even I think I sound weird!

RE: Keeping Dog cool in car

That is a tough situation......I also have 2 boys and just now am letting them go to the men's bathroom, but I stand right outside the door and look at everyone that comes and goes. As convenient as fast food is, I think you are pretty stuck with homemade stuff. Pre-make/pack it the night before. You could even get some fast food - Subway - that you could get out once you hit a rest stop. Your boys are pretty young and this would depend on their maturity, but the only other option I see, is having the boys stay in the truck with the dog with the doors locked and a cell phone, truck running. You run in and do your "business" or get fast food, then come back and take boys. Boys are much faster in the bathroom - usually anyway. That way, truck is on for most of the time. Either way, even 10 minutes on a hot day and I think the inside can reach 120. Sounds like a fun trip! Good luck and remember to come back and let us know how it goes. Jana
